Erik Stafford here. Say you were opening up a Hamburger Stand, and you were allowed to pick one major advantage that you could have to set you apart from your competitors. What one advantage would you want to have?

A great location? Awesome burgers? Great signs?

Think about it, and post your answers.

To your success,

Erik

    Hi Erik:

I would definitely say it’s Location! Location! Location!

You can have the best tasting, gourmet burger, the brightest, fanciest sign but if you don’t have the location, you have no business!

You and I read the same stuff… So as not to give it away instantly I’ll just say a H_____ C____ for now. That should help any other inquiring minds!

    Hello Eric,

The one major advantage I would like is to be located where there was a hungry crowd that has money.
I went desert offroading this last weekend and everyone for about 10 miles ended up at the only place that served burgers and fries. There was a line out the door and the food was fair at best. $4.50 for a burger and $2.00 for fries and they only are open Saturdays and Sundays until 4 pm….non stop!

I would want a multitude of ravenous carnivores who prefer hamburger to any other meat. who also were able to pay for their burgers.

From a business perspective to start a new burger joint, I believe it is the sinage that will bring in the most customers - kind of like good ad copy. Since there is no “history” or “reputation”, you have to rely on signage. Look at what Dominoes did with pretty mediocre pizza. Only later did they slow down (pun intended!)to make a better product. Of course from a long-term business plan and customer service plan, you will have to make the best (at least really good) burgers in town and/or provide a fun and unusual atmosphere, in my opinion.

    Hey Erik,

I you were to set up a hamburger stand and you wanted it to be a runaway success the one advantage that would set you apart from the competition would be a ’stampede of hungry customers’ day in day out.

Keep up the good work mate.

Building on what Jono says, a “stampede of hungry customers” would be your advertising, and not cost a cent.
