Thanks for all the comments guys. I can't agree more with all of you and it pleases me to no end to communicate with people who understand that success takes hard work, and are not afraid to put that hard work in...

And are seeing the results!

Thanks for these home truths, Erik.

I'm grateful to the internet marketers because without them I wouldn't even got started. I started my blog up last September (I think, it seems so long ago now)after listening to a free Pat Marcello mp3.

Since then I've looked at lots of different marketing programmes and been able to choose which advice links to my current reality but because my primary purpose isn't to make money (and I don't think anyone has that as a primary purpose, to be honest) I don't make desperate mistakes.. I think people being self-aware is the main key to filtering what's right or wrong for them in this arena.

Marketers will sometimes tell you you can be up and running within weeks doing very little but you'll later read how they struggled doing 16 hour days on-line since 1998 until meeting a certain genius two years ago who made things really take off for them. The truth is they built tremendous unconscious skills prior to meeting said genius and said genius knew a good thing when they saw it - for most of us the same path probably still applies.

I know a few people in 'real life' who've got a 'quick fix' answer that was disastrous for them because they hadn't developed the underlying skill set needed to make it work for them at the higher level. The trick in all things like this is probably not to invest more than you can afford to comfortably lose while you're in 'learning curve' mode.

Having said all this don't you think the marketing experts make the net a much happier place to be? Even their free stuff is better than a college course would be. I don't mind them telling me there's an easier life round the corner, even if it is a big big corner.

Keep it up, guys!

Erik,

It's nice to see that you tell it like it is.

I know that there is a lot of hard work, effort, and time that needs to be put into starting and running an IM business.

Now that I am laid off, I can spend more tome on it, but there is still a lot for me to learn and implement.

Talk soon, my friend!

Best,

Hey Eric,

Great job!

I wouldn't be so kind on number#1. I think marketing is important but when there is no substance behind the material you just purchased.... Then I think I have been had!

Kal

PS. the link above for a no hype biz sounds great but in reality I don't want to buy too many bricks in one shot...too confusing and a huge commitment for what?

Hi Erik,

I appreciate your kicking the lid off of the Internet marketing mindset about how easy everything is.

My experience has been that it takes a lot of good old-fashioned hard work to Internet market.

The easiest lie for me to see through is that you don't need to know anything about computers.

Most of the big Internet marketers suggest that you simply hire out all of your computer work.

Is that really practical? In my financial situation it wouldn't be.

The average person couldn't possibly afford to farm out every aspect of their computer related or blog related work without going bankrupt.

The truth is, you really have to know how to do most everything yourself. It's hard, but not impossible.

If you follow along with Erik's videos at TheFasterWebmaster and read some computer related books in the "Dummies" series you'll learn what you need to know pretty fast.

Regards,

Hi Erik, You've just won yourself a fan with that crackin' email. I learned a lot from that, not least about how to write a first class message that grabs and really informs with conviction plus. Thank you so much, Erik; I'm really watching out for your emails from now on.
Ken
BTW: Love the vid - you're a lucky guy!

Erik
The time has come for the myths and misconceptions to be busted. I have a teleseminar on this very subject and we just led a live event to help people, not HYPE them.

Glad to hear the truth being revealed.

Erik,
I am one of your big fans, and I love this post. Because I have experienced all of what you mention in my last 1 1/2 years of Internet Marketing. And I had to learn the hard way that these things are simply not true.
I work on my Internet Business now every spare minute of the day (often till after 12am in the morning), and I am starting to see some success. It has taken me 1 1/2 years to get there, though. And I was a complete "Newbie" so there was a ton of stuff to be learned. It is hard work, but if you are passionate about it and don't expect too much too soon, you will get there.
Everybody, listen to what Erik has to say, he is one of the "good guys"!
