We ducked into the broken concrete house with its patchwork tin roof in the desolate slums of Colombia. Someone pointed to a picture of nine year Taiti on the wall. Her dark eyes reflected the despair of her surroundings and her somber gaze showed no hope. Now, at thirteen Taiti has a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her lips. At the top of her class, she has a passion for school. Why? Someone reached out to give Taiti hope and a sense of purpose. She is learning the skills needed to build a promising future. My husband and I started a Girls Support Home to help girls in the hopeless slums of Colombia. We give them the needed support to fulfill the dreams God has placed in their hearts, to move them from poverty to purpose. Before this, we adopted four teens from poverty backgrounds, an American son, two, a son from Brazil and the two daughters from Colombia. When my son from Brazil graduated from a local university, he said, “Mom, I know I could stay in the USA and have the good life but what I really want to do is rescue my brother and sisters from the slums.” Now, we support my son in Brazil who is helping three of his siblings. Before we adopted the teens, we directed a ranch for men from Skid Row L.A. to help broken men rebuild their lives. I have joined a ton of opt-in lists, purchased a few resources, and am currently tryng to whittle all the info down into manageable chunks so I can chose one or two methods to begin. I am intimidated by the prospect of setting up a website, not so much due to the "techie stuff", as your program looks ideal for that, but because I am afraid that I will waste money on a site that I am not prepared to utilize. Disability is difficult to live on, and even though my prognosis continues to improve and I might even return to work next year--I would much prefer to establish an income that allows me the time and money to continue to work on my health and fulfill some of my dreams regardless of which way my health turns.
